Hence my infrequent blogging during the last month. Apologies, but you can only do so much on-line activity before something has to give, and it looks like being this blog. Still, I enjoyed blogging while it lasted but My Space (Music)is probably the natural place to be - along with another trillion squidillion bands.

I Was Odd!

I was odd
I was a little sod
And from a very very early age
I did not believe in God
And my parents they scalded me
They locked me in my room at night
But I climbed through the window
And stayed out until dawn.

And I knew
What I would have to do
And that soon as I could
I would have to leave this house
Run away and join the army
Go and fight in some stupid war
A foolish and a senseless war
What am I fighting for?

And I’d shout and I’d scream.,

But my sergeant he bullied me
Coz he really didn't like me
He made me cut the grass with scissors
And stand out naked in the freezing snow
So I went and got a pistol
And I put it to his head one night
I blew his fucking brains out
And laughed at the sight.

I was odd, somehow I wasn't right
I used to keep my piss in a jar
I used to hiss at the passing cars
So they took me to this institute
Where they keep me sedated at night
And I'd stare at the walls
For hours, hours and hours.

And I’d shout and I’d scream.,

Coz I was odd,
From an early age.

This film was recorded when a group of us walked to the top of beautiful Carn Fadryn in North Wales. The wind picked up and we found ourselves stood on the trig point pretending to fly. It was a very special moment for all sorts of reasons.

Not an expensive model but a good workhorse and value for money. Accordions are not like other instruments (e.g. guitars and violins) and do not respond well to the aging process - a bit like people I suppose! No longer will I find a cold blast of air when playing the C key, or have to press the E note to close the bellows due to tired out old reeds.

I'm sure 'real' accordion players would laugh at my basic grasp of the instrument, but its amazing what you can do with this under rated piece of kit, even at a basic level.

We are going into a recording studio tomorrow and I'm going to work the accordion on a song called 'The Calm Before the Storm'. We'll see how it goes.

Amazed at this rare occurence (his main interests are football, football and er., football) I quickly tracked down the necessary tools of the trade. This is what he came up with, a drawing of a pimp smoking a fat spliff. Bless!

A cover version of a song (created by our good selves) found itself on to a web site called 'singingfish' which locates MP3's on the internet and provides a front end search engine for users. Bizarrely, and undoubtedly mistaken for the real thing (i.e. the original massively famous song), it was downloaded over 1000 times in less than a month. Imagine the disappointment of the downloaders when they realised it was a cover version by some unknown bunch of never has been's and never will be's. But I like the idea that it has been listened to by so many in such a short space time, even if it wasn't what they were looking for.

As all of this was a complete surprise I have been forced to try and track down the publishers of the said piece of music to request that we can do a cover. The phrase 'after the horse has bolted' comes to mind but at least it shows willing. You don't want to mess with the music industry as (in my humble opinion) they are one of the greediest and protectionist industries on our planet. Still, I believe obscurity will prevail and our cover version will be buried and forgotten in no time at all. On the internet, a few days is like a lifetime of endless information. Its gone already.

A recent band practice saw us experimenting with an old four track and recording this cover version of the Black Eyed Peas 'My Humps'. That's me on vocals and accordion, Stuart on lead guitar, Gregorious on drums and James on bass. Well., it made us laugh and (if you know the original) it might make you laugh too!

Previous comments

The Walrus: I've no idea what the original is like, but I thought that was great fun!

Trolly: :-) that's great! good bass line going on.... trolly x

Cormacksdad: I was prepared not to like this.....Black Eyed Peas & accordion? Send it to Chris Moyles! It's cool!

Charliesworld: this is f-ing funny!!! In a really good way!! I want more!! The more out of step with the original the better. such as.
Like a Virgin - Madonna
Hit me baby one more time - Britney S
Keep it up!!

Sandra_timpson; I love this! I imagine myself jigging and spilling my large G&T all over my frock and not minding a jot at your gig because it rocks. Can you do 'I think we're alone now' by Tiffany?

lonemum: good and sort of raunchy and yup , definitly one to jig along with whilst slopping beer over me shoes...

visitor: I'm liking this - on my i pod now.

Old Man Pie: Thanks for all the feedback bloggers and also the suggestions for other equally strange covers.

Mexican hats (as in the ones you can buy in Spain and Greece if you havn't been to Mexico)
Pirate hats (with skull and cross bones)
Cowboy hats (as worn on Brokeback Mountain)
Camouflage hats (as in combat gear and hats)
Ballaclavas (a little scary but works a treat on 'Daddy was a Bank Robber' by The Clash)
Dunce hats (as in capital 'D' for dork, dunce and dunno)
Pork pie hats - (naturally)
Bowler hats - (more clockwork orange than City of London)
Indian head dress - as worn by The Village People
Train Driver hats - as worn by Casey Jones (for those of you old enough to remember the series)

Hats make for a fun night out and also serve to hide our fast disappearing hair lines. We like hats.
